The way the apartment buildings at the former Kelly/Thomas Ford dealership at 199 and 211 Rantoul St. are stacking up, you could say it looks like a crane playing a game of blocks.
"It's like Jenga," said Kristen Poulin, the director of development for Beverly Crossing, which is developing two new mixed-use apartment buildings along Rantoul Street that straddle Wallis Street. "This particular job, they (modules) go in all different directions based on the right size (the trucks) can carry down on the highway."
Instead of wooden blocks, a crane has been stacking prefabricated modular sections into place. The modular sections arrive — nearly finished on the inside — from a factory in Canada. The 184 modules stacked together will form 126 apartments in the two buildings, according to Chris Koeplin, president of Beverly Crossing.
