Even though nobody knows what the real “New Normal” of Post COVID-19 will be, many people that were told to work from home have found even a couple of people living in the same house can be totally distracting.
Is this your new office staff? |
Looking for some peace and quiet to do their job, many workers are turning to adding an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to their property if zoning permits it.
Some have even bought Tiny Houses on Wheels (THOW) and RVs, placing them in driveways and backyards.
Tiny House on Wheels (THOW) |
Workers with young children are especially vulnerable to being interrupted several times a day. The younger the children, the more interruptions. Who knew! With students seeing their schools closed until the new school year begins, those ADU and THOW buildings can be used as an office, a school room or simply an escape room.
Park Model |
Even Park models, which are usually 10” to 12” wide and require special permits to be moved to a new location, are being purchased. The difference in width between a THOW and a Park model may not seem like a lot, but 12 feet is almost 47% wider than the 8 feet 3 inches of the THOW.
Auxiliary Dwelling Unit (ADU) |
Parents with College age children and those with recently married children may find that employment for them has changed and want to help by putting some type of ADU in their backyard.
The average cost of a THOW is in the $30,000 to $40,000 range which makes it one of the most affordable options.
The real question you need to ask is the cost of an ADU, THOW or Park model a good investment once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted? It all depends on how quickly things begin to return to some sort of normal.
With employers of many non-face to face service businesses finding that their employees did a good job while working from home, look for many of those office jobs at the business being transferred to the employee’s home.
It will be interesting to see what happens this time next year.
